“It shapes how I show up for my family, how I spend time with friends, and how I put my needs first without apology.” Permission To, After the Exhale
It was… claiming the spare bedroom. My own little space for the week. And bonus: it had an ensuite bathroom. 😉
My husband happily took the other room, and you know what? It was the best idea for both of us.
After spending all day together, making memories, keeping everyone fed, and making sure the kids were having the best vacation possible, we each had space to recharge. It made us more present with each other and with our kids during the day.
I didn’t have to tiptoe if I woke up during the night to use the bathroom. I didn’t have to worry about waking someone up because I toss and turn. (Or being woken up by someone who snores soooo loudly. 😂)
The whole thing got me thinking... It wasn’t really about the room. It was about acknowledging something I needed without feeling guilty for needing it.
For me, that looked like having a little corner that was just mine. For you, it might be an hour to yourself. A walk. A coffee alone. A morning to sleep in.
We all have different needs.
The important part is recognizing what yours is... and making room for it. 💕
Today, I know that every choice I make helps shape whom I become tomorrow. That’s why I no longer make decisions based only on what everyone else needs from me. I make them with my own well-being in mind too.
Those choices ripple into every part of my life. They influence the kind of mom I am, the kind of friend I am, the way I lead my team, the way I love the people around me, and the way I care for myself.
I’ve learned that making room for my own needs isn’t selfish. It’s what allows me to be more present, more patient, and more connected to the people I love. Not because I matter more than anyone else, but because I matter too.
What does making room for yourself look like these days?
